KUTZTOWN, Pa.-- The Stonehill women?s tennis team made its second appearance in three years in the NCAA Division II Championships on Thursday afternoon, as the eighth-seeded Chieftains dropped a 5-0 decision to top-seeded Kutztown in first round play of the 2005 East Regional on the Kutztown Courts.
Junior Lauren Losoncy (Shillington, Pa.) and sophomore Kerstin Kloeffer (Ludwigs Hafen, Germany) were winners in singles and doubles action for the host Golden Bears (13-2), who advance to Friday?s second round match in the East Regional to take on fourth-seeded Bryant, a 5-2 winner over fourth-seeded Queens (N.Y.) in Thursday?s other first round match-up.
Kloeffer and sophomore Priya Pachkawde (Nasik, India) teamed up for an 8-4 win at number one doubles for Kutztown, while sophomore Jahrna Nansi (Mumbai, India) and freshman Amy Withers (Essendon, Australia) posted an 8-3 triumph at the number two doubles spot. Losoncy and freshman Bianca Blatz (Ludwigs Hafen, Germany) posted the other point of the day for the Golden Bears with an 8-5 win at number three doubles.
Stonehill finishes the 2005 campaign with an overall mark of 13-3, as all three of the Chieftains? setbacks on the spring came at the hands of the two East Regional finalists in Bryant and Kutztown. Stonehill made its first appearance in the NCAA Championships back in 2003 against Millersville.
