April 27. 1981 - Stonehill Softball earned their second consecutive MAIAW Division III State Championship with a 4-3 victory over Holy Cross.  A late single from Sharon Donovan scored Elissa Santos and Sally Scully to give Stonehill the win.  The win gave the College their first appearance in the EAIAW Division III Regional Tournament.

EASTON, Mass.-- The Stonehill women?s tennis team suffered its first setback of the season on Saturday afternoon, as Bryant used a doubles sweep and wins in four of six singles contests to post a 7-2 dual-match victory in a showdown for first place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings on the Stonehill Courts.

Juniors Alex Spence (Lynnfield, Mass.) and Alanna Santanello (North Providence, R.I.), along with sophomores Sacha Solomon (Bourne, Mass.) and Annette Jervasi (Colchester, Conn.), posted triumph in both singles and doubles action for the visiting Bulldogs (15-1, 9-0 Northeast-10), who also received an 8-6 win at the number three doubles spot from freshmen Michelle Burke (Barrington, R.I.) and Lauren Mullen (Braintree, Mass.) en route to their sixth straight victory.

Junior Anna Walsh (Dennis, Mass.) improved to 7-1 in singles play for the host Chieftains (8-1, 8-1 Northeast-10) with a straight set win at the number four singles spot, while freshman Daniella Granato (Concord, Mass.) remained unbeaten (9-0) in singles action with a straight set triumph at the number six singles position for Stonehill.

Stonehill travels to Albany, N.Y. on Sunday morning to take on Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 dual-match that begins at 11:00 a.m., while Bryant heads to Syracuse, N.Y. to square off with LeMoyne in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:00 p.m.
