EASTON, Mass.-- Top-seeded Bryant University claimed its second straight Northeast-10 Conference Women?s Tennis Championship on Sunday afternoon by posting a 5-0 victory over second-seeded Stonehill in the title match of the 2005 Championships played at the Ames Sports Complex.

The Bulldogs, now 21-1 overall, earn an automatic berth into the 2005 NCAA Division II Women?s Tennis Championships, which begin on May 6th. Bryant, which posted a perfect 12-0 mark in regular season conference play, has now won 12 straight matches overall dating back to March 26th.

Sophomore Sacha Solomon (Bourne, Mass.), the 2005 Northeast-10 Player of the Year, and freshman Michelle Burke (Barrington, R.I.) were winners in both singles and doubles play on the day for the Bulldogs, as Solomon teamed up with sophomore Annette Jervasi (Colchester, Conn.) for an 8-3 win at number one doubles while Burke and freshman Lauren Mullen (Braintree, Mass.) notched an 8-5 win at the number three doubles spot. Juniors Alanna Santanello (North Providence, R.I.) and Alex Spence (Lynnfield, Mass.) earned the final point of the match in the first-to-five points format for Bryant with an 8-6 win at number two doubles.

The host Chieftains fall to 13-2 overall with the setback, as both of Stonehill?s losses this season have come at the hands of Bryant. The Chieftains, who advanced to the Northeast-10 championship round for the second time in three seasons, will await word of a possible at-large berth in the NCAA Division II Championships, as pairings will be announced on Tuesday.
