Hickey Named NE-10 Goalkeeper of the Week

Lee, Mass., native leads Skyhawks into postseason with four-straight shutouts

EASTON, Mass. (October 26, 2009) - Stonehill College sophomore Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) has earned Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors by the Conference office this afternoon.

Hickey earns the award for the first time in her career after posting 180 shutout minutes as Stonehill clinched a postseason berth with a pair of wins last week, extending the Skyhawks shutout streak to four matches during an overall six game winning streak. She averaged 8.5 saves per match and has not allowed a goal over the last 378:19. Hickey made nine saves in Tuesday's 3-0 victory at Assumption College and then closed out the week with eight stops in the Skyhawks' 2-0 playoff clinching win over Le Moyne College on Saturday.

Hickey has started all 17 matches this fall for Stonehill, playing all but 1:18 in the Skyhawks goal. She ranks second among Northeast-10 leaders with 102 saves, while her 6.00 saves per match rank fourth, five shutouts sixth and her .816 save percentage seventh in the NE-10. Hickey has posted a 1.33 goals against average in 1,561:10 this season.

Stonehill has won six-straight matches to climb into postseason position after a string of five-straight losses (four those by a goal and one in overtime) to end the month of September. Five of the Skyhawks six wins during their current winning streak have been clean sheets.

Stonehill (10-7-0, 8-6-0 NE-10), ranked tenth in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas Division II East Regional poll, closes out the regular season on Wednesday when it visits Saint Michael's College at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks NE-10 Tournament quarterfinal opponent will either be fourth-seeded Merrimack College or third-seeded University of Massachusetts Lowell depending on the result of the final round of regular season matches. The NE-10 quarterfinals are scheduled for Sunday, November 1.
