Women's Lacrosse Places Six Individuals On 2007 IWLCA Division II All-Regional Team, Hoffman, Wetmore To Participate In 2007 IWLCA Division II Senior All-Star Game

May 23, 2007

Easton, Mass.-- Six members of the Stonehill women's lacrosse team were named today to the 2007 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II All-Regional squad, as the five first team members are now eligible for selection to the 2007 IWLCA/US Lacrosse Division II All-America team that will be announced next week.

Leading the way on the first team for Head Coach Michael Daly's Skyhawks is 2007 Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year Kristin Darrell (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip), as the junior midfielder netted 61 goals and 23 assists for 84 points in 18 matches before suffering a season-ending injury in the league tournament. A two-time All-America pick, Darrell is the fourth individual in school history to earn Northeast-10 Player of the Year accolades, as Stonehill has captured eight of the nine awards handed out in the conference's history.

Sophomore midfielder Michelle Kelly (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham), the 2007 Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Year, earned first team all-regional honors as well after netting 60 goals and 29 assists for a team-best 89 points in 20 contests, as she also led the team in draw controls (45) and caused turnovers (24) while collecting 34 ground balls. Freshman Liza Gross (Loudonville, N.Y./Shaker) also earned a spot on the first team North Region squad after netting 44 goals and 19 assists for 63 points as a rookie this spring, while sophomore Kristyn Gramzow (Billerica, Mass./Billerica) and freshman Jaclyn Craig (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) rounded out the Stonehill selections to the all-regional first team after helping the Skyhawks rank once again as one of the top defensive squads in the nation. Gramzow, a first-team all-Northeast-10 selection, netted four goals and four assists for eight points while adding 24 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers, while Craig, a second-team all-league pick, notched four goals and five total points while collecting 31 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers for a defensive unit that allowed just 6.60 goals per contest this spring.

Additionally, seniors Tracey Hoffman (Nashua, N.H./Nashua) and Emily Wetmore (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) have been selected to play in the 2007 IWLCA Division II Senior All-Star Game that will take place on Saturday, June 16th at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. beginning at 1:00 p.m. EDT. Hoffman, a first-team all-Northeast-10 selection this season and a second-team IWLCA all-regional pick, netted 34 goals and a team-high 39 assists for 73 points in her final campaign and became the seventh player in school history to eclipse the 200-career point plateau, while Wetmore was also part of the stellar Skyhawk defensive unit, as she notched a pair of goals to go with 18 ground balls and six caused turnovers.

Stonehill finished the 2007 season with an overall mark of 18-2, including a perfect 10-0 Northeast-10 slate, as the Skyhawks claimed their ninth straight conference regular season title and eighth straight league tournament crown en route to the program's fifth trip to the NCAA Division II championships in seven years. Daly's crew fell to eventual national champion C.W. Post in the national semi-finals on May 12th in Salem, Va., as both of Stonehill's setbacks this spring came at the hands of the Pioneers.
