May 31, 2006
Four members of the Stonehill College women's lacrosse team were named on Tuesday afternoon to the 2006 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/US Lacrosse Division II All-America squads for their efforts this spring. The quartet will be honored during the IWLCA Awards Banquet in Baltimore on June 10th.
Seniors Erin Acone (Bow, N.H./Bow) and Jenny McGrath (Milton, Mass./Milton) were named as first team IWLCA All-America selections for their performances during the 2006 campaign. Acone, the three-time reigning Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Year, netted 61 goals and 29 assists for 90 points this season to finish her career with 227 goals and 311 points, ranking third and sixth, respectively, on the career Division II lists in those categories. McGrath, a three-time all-conference selection, set school single season records for assists (66) and points (110) this spring, as she graduated as the Skyhawks' career assists leader while recording the third highest single-season assist total in Division II history.
Fellow seniors Kate Sarkissian (Sandwich, Mass./Sandwich) and Lauren Stone (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) were tabbed as second team IWLCA All-America selections for their efforts this season. Sarkissian led a Stonehill defensive unit that allowed just 6.81 goals per contest, as she ranked among the team leaders in ground balls (51) and caused turnovers (29) while chipping in with a pair of assists on the offensive side. Stone posted a 13-3 mark with a 7.18 goals against average during her final campaign, recording 139 saves for a .558 saves percentage, as she ranks as the winningest goalie in school history with 47 career triumphs.
Acone and Sarkissian join former Stonehill standout Katie Lambert '03 as the only four-time IWLCA All-America selections in school history, while McGrath and Stone each earned their second All-America honors with this year's selection. Since the varsity inception of the program in 1999, a total of 14 individuals have earned All-America honors under Head Coach Michael Daly's tutelage.
Stonehill finished the 2006 season with an overall mark of 16-3, capturing its eighth straight Northeast-10 regular season championship with its sixth consecutive undefeated conference record, and the Skyhawks claimed their seventh straight league tournament crown with a 14-10 triumph over Merrimack in the title match on May 7th. The Stonehill Women's Lacrosse Class of 2006 graduated with an overall mark of 68-8 (.895), four Northeast-10 regular season and conference tournament titles and a pair of NCAA Division II national championships in 2003 and 2005.
