Skyhawks Drop Second Straight On The Road With 70-68
Loss To St. Rose

Albany, N.Y. – St. Rose scored six of the final
eight points to overcome a ten point lead midway through the second
half and take down the 10th ranked Skyhawks 70-68 on Saturday
afternoon at Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.
Stonehill was unable to contain the Golden Knights leading scorer
Dana Brown, who scored 23 points, 13 of which came in the second
half.
The Skyhawks started off strong, taking an early 10-4 lead helped
by two Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.) buckets,
however the Golden Knights wouldn’t quit as senior Lauren
Revesz scored six points in an 8-0 run to put St. Rose back in
front at 12-10.
The teams exchanged leads four times with neither able to pull
away until Stonehill took a 28-17 at the 9:50 mark behind eight
straight points by Kristen McWhirter (Melvin
Village, N.H.).
The Golden Knights fought back once again with five points from
Jenna Hughes and a Brown layup that pulled St. Rose within two at
28-30 with just over four minutes remaining.
Stonehill however was able to keep the Golden Knights at bay,
taking a 38-35 lead into the half.
The Skyhawks opened the second on a 12-3 run but were once again
failed to distance themselves anymore from St. Rose.
Though Stonehill was unable to stretch the ten point margin they
took leads of 50-40 and then again at 55-45 with just over
left minutes left.
The Golden Knights climbed back again and took only their second
lead of the game, 60-59, with just over five minutes left in the
contest. The teams traded leads twice before the Skyhawks took a
66-64 lead on two foul shots by McWhirter with a minute and a half
on the clock.
Not to be denied, Brown hit a jumper at the 1:11 mark to tie it up
at 66. Looking to take the lead, the Skyhawks turned it over and
Brown made them pay again, hitting the go-ahead jumper with just 31
seconds remaining.
Following a Stonehill timeout, Bethany Tighe missed a three point
attempt and the Skyhawks were forced to foul with eight seconds
left.
Sophomore Lynsey Timbrouck hit both shots to give the Golden
Knights at 70-66 lead. The Skyhawks were unable to get off a clean
three point attempt but McWhirter put in a last second shot for the
70-68 final tally.
Simonds led Stonehill with 18 points and five rebounds, while she
was joined in double figures by McWhirter (17 points, nine
rebounds) and Emily Rousseau (Biddeford, Maine)
(14 points, six assists).
Brown led St. Rose with 23 points while Revesz scored 20 on 8-12
shooting inside, with eight rebounds.
The loss drops the Skyhawks to 14-3 overall and 9-3 in the
Northeast-10. Stonehill returns to action on Tuesday when they
travel to Pace to take on the Setters at 5:30 p.m.
