Simonds Named Northeast-10 Player of the Week
Easton, Mass. - For the first time this season and the third time in her career, Stonehill junior Kelsey Simonds (Middleboro, Mass.) has been named Northeast-10 Player of the Week it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
In her lone contest of the week, Simonds recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds on 9-for-14 shooting as the Skyhawks rolled past visiting Southern Connecticut, 63-45 on Tuesday at Merkert Gymnasium.
The win for Stonehill, currently ranked No. 6 in the latest ESPN/USA Today Division II Coaches' Poll, was their fourth in a row and was the second consecutive double-double for Simonds, who now has 22 career double dips.
Averaging 16.0 points and 10.0 rebounds on 52 percent shooting, Simonds is one of just four players in the Northeast-10 (male or female) that averages a double-double.
At 8-1 overall, the Skyhawks sit atop the Northeast-10 with a 6-1 league record. They return to action on Monday, December 22 when they travel to Adelphi for a non-conference meeting with the Panthers at 6 p.m.
