EASTON, Mass.-- Junior Rebekah Saunders (Gilford, N.H.) and sophomore Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) each notched 14 kills to lead Stonehill to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference volleyball victory over American International Wednesday evening by game scores of 30-19, 30-14 and 30-28 in a league match played at Merkert Gymnasium.
Saunders added 10 digs and four service aces for the host Skyhawks, who improve to 2-8 overall and 1-2 in Northeast-10 play with the triumph. Sophomore Heidi Woerner (North Kingstown, R.I.) chipped in with eight kills and five total blocks on the night for Stonehill, which also received six digs from junior Tara Munch (West Islip, N.Y.) as well as 33 set assists from freshman Kristen Hordern (Swansea, Mass.).
Senior Zane Berzina (Talsi, Latvia) registered seven kills in the setback for the visiting Yellow Jackets, who fall to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in Northeast-10 play.
Stonehill heads to Waltham, Mass. on Saturday morning to participate in the Bentley Invitational, as the Skyhawks square off with New York Tech and C.W. Post in non-league action that begins at 11:00 a.m. American International will be idle until next Tuesday evening when the Yellow Jackets host Merrimack in a Northeast-10 outing at Butova Gymnasium in Springfield, Mass. at 7:00 p.m.
