EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Julie Handy (Yorba Linda, Calif.) notched 28 kills and 13 digs to lead UMass Lowell to a 3-1 Northeast-10 Conference volleyball victory over Stonehill Wednesday evening by game scores of 30-20, 30-28, 26-30 and 30-26 in a league match played at Merkert Gymnasium.
Freshman Nicole OSullivan (Quincy, Mass.) added 16 kills and six digs in the triumph for the visiting River Hawks (16-6, 8-2 Northeast-10), who also received eight kills each from senior Katie Harrington (Rochester, N.H.) and sophomore Kristina Martell (Chelmsford, Mass.). Junior Caitlin Harte (East Rochester, N.H.) recorded 55 assists as well for the winners on the evening.
Freshman Katherine Masson (Acushnet, Mass.) notched a career-high 17 kills and 11 digs in the setback for the host Skyhawks (7-17, 4-7 Northeast-10), who also received 12 kills and 15 digs from senior Doree Blanco (Warwick, R.I.). Sophomore Rebekah Saunders (Gilford, N.H.) chipped in with eight kills and three total blocks on the night for Stonehill, which received 26 set assists from senior Mollie Babcock (Gilford, N.H.), six kills from sophomore Sara Thompson (Millis, Mass.) and four solo blocks from freshman Heidi Woerner (North Kingstown, R.I.).
Stonehill heads to Pleasantville, N.Y. on Friday evening to take on Pace in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 7:00 p.m., while UMass Lowell will square off with both Merrimack and Dowling in a non-league tri-match on Saturday morning in Lowell, Mass. beginning at 11:00 a.m.
