North Dartmouth, Mass. - Behind freshman Kelly O'Toole (Nashua, N.H.), who finished in a team-best 19:04 and in 21st place, the Skyhawks women's cross country team finished in third overall place of 29 teams at the 35th annual UMass-Dartmouth Invitational.
The event, which took scores from the top five finishers of each team, was won by Amherst College who finished with 42 overall points.
Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) was right on her teammate's heels, coming in 23rd with a time of 19:08. Andrea Topalis crossed the finish line in 30th position at 19:15 and she was followed by Jenny Gardynski at 19:22 in 34th. The Skyhawks fifth finisher was Jackie Oates (South Easton, Mass.0 in 59th place.
On the men's side, Stonehill placed 13th behind its top finisher freshman Zach Lankow (Saugus, Mass.), who wrapped up the five mile run in 26:29. Brian Benson (Loudinville, N.Y.) was the next Skyhawk to cross the line, finishing at 27:07. He was followed by Matt Rigby (Suffield, Conn.) in 82nd place at 27:18.
Both Stonehill squads return to the course on Saturday when the Skyhawks travel to the Connecticut College Invite.
