Skyhawks, River Hawks Share Northeast-10 Championship

Kevin Gill was the first freshman to cross the finish line in Sunday's Northeast-10 Championship.

North Easton, Mass. - The first six runners to cross the line were either a Skyhawk or a River Hawk and that led to a tie for the Northeast-10 Conference Cross Country Championship between host Stonehill and UMass-Lowell on Sunday morning.

Both teams finished with identical scores of 35 and were followed in third by Southern Connecticut (82), Bentley in fourth (134) and Bryant in fifth (171).

The River Hawks' Stephen DeWitt and Ruben Sanca finished 1-2, but Dave Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) followed them with a time of 25:25. After Joseph DeWitt finished at 25:28, two Stonehill runners, senior Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and freshman Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass.) crossed the line at 25:36 and 25:40 respectively.

Josh Andrews (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Matt Meagher (Mansfield, Mass.) were 10th and 11th with times of 25:57 and 26:01, while Dickie Gerry's (Bow, N.H.) 14th place finish earns all three second-team All-Northeast-10.

Metzger, Ryan and Gill collect first-team All-Northeast-10 honors and Gill, by virtue of being the top freshman finisher, was named Northeast-10 Freshman of the Year.

The remaining teams finished as follows: Le Moyne (192), Merrimack (203), Assumption (234), St. Rose (234), Southern New Hampshire (285), St. Anselm (300), AIC (325), St. Michael's (355) and Pace (421).

Stonehill returns to action on Saturday, November 3rd when they participate in the NCAA Regional Championships at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
