May 10, 2003 - Senior Erin Acone registered six goals in the Stonehill Women's Lacrosse 14-13 win over LIU-C.W. Post in the NCAA Division II Championship Semi-Finals.  Acone graduated with a College-best 227 goals scored.

SMITHFIELD, R.I.-- Stonehill College captured its second straight Northeast-10 Conference Mens Cross Country championship on Sunday afternoon, as the Skyhawks successfully defended their title by posting a team score of 33 points to edge out runner-up UMass Lowell for the second straight season, this time by a five-point margin.

Sophomores Khalid Abdi (Brockton, Mass.) and David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) paced four Stonehill individuals in the top 10, as Abdi finished third with a time of 26:57 over the 8K layout and Metzger followed in fourth place with a time of 27:00. Sophomore Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.) joined Abdi and Metzger in earning first-team all-Northeast-10 accolades by placing seventh individually, as he posted a time of 27:14.

Senior T.J. Smith (East Bridgewater, Mass.) followed Ryan across the finish line in eighth place for Stonehill with a time of 27:14, and sophomore Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) joined Smith in earning second-team all-conference honors by placing 11th with a time of 27:36. Junior Tim Catoggio (Bradford, Mass.) rounded out the all-conference honorees for the Skyhawks by finishing 16th with a time of 27:51, good for third team accolades. Skyhawk Head Coach Karen Boen was named by her peers as the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year for the second straight season, as she has earned conference Coach of the Year honors in both mens and womens cross country a total of seven times over the last six seasons.

UMass Lowell senior Patrick Morasse took top honors in the race, followed by Bentleys Ryan Agnew in second place. Southern Connecticut finished third in the final team standings with 88 points, followed by Bryant in fourth place (138 points) and Merrimack in fifth place (156 points).

Stonehill seeks its third straight berth in the NCAA national championships on Sunday, November 6th when the Skyhawks compete at the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Championships at Franklin Park in Boston beginning at 1:30 p.m.
