McKeon, Smith Lead Nationally-Ranked Cross Country Squads To Respective Second Place Team Finishes At Williams Plansky Invitational

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass.-- Both Stonehill cross country teams grabbed runner-up honors at the Williams Plansky Invitational on Saturday afternoon, as both Chieftain squads finished second to host Williams in the team competition.
Three Stonehill men?s runners finished in the top six individually as the 17th-ranked Chieftains posted a team score of 42 points to finish as runner-up to Williams (24 points), as senior Sean McKeon (Millbury, Mass.) covered the 6K layout in a time of 19:56 to place third. Junior T.J. Smith (East Bridgewater, Mass. and senior Fran Guardabascio (Mansfield, Mass.) placed fifth and sixth, respectively, for Stonehill with times of 20:06 and 20:09, while freshmen David Metzger (Ellington, Conn.) and Richard Gerry (Bow, N.H.) rounded out the Chieftain scoring by placing 13th and 15th, respectively, with times of 20:28 and 20:32 at the Mount Greylock High School course.
On the women?s side, junior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) posted the top time for the 18th-ranked Chieftains, as she placed ninth individually in covering the 4K layout in a time of 15:40. Sophomore Kelly Chaisson (Walpole, Mass.) was next in 11th place with a time of 15:51, while senior All-America Meghann Shanahan (Haverhill, Mass.) followed in 15th place with a time of 16:06. Sophomore Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) and freshman Lesley Clunie (Newburyport, Mass.) rounded out the Stonehill scoring by placing 22nd and 27th, respectively, with times of 16:29 and 16:41.
Both Stonehill squads will compete for their respective Northeast-10 Conference championships next Sunday, October 24th at Saint Michael?s College in Colchester, Vt. The Chieftain women seek their fifth straight conference crown next Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., while the Chieftain men, who finished second to UMass Lowell last season, run for the league title at 11:30 a.m.
