Honors Pour In For Fayed, Skyhawks
Skillman, N.J. - A season removed from its highest season-ending regional ranking ever, the 2009 Stonehill men's tennis team raised the bar for 2010, wrapping up its record-setting season with a No. 3 final regional ranking - now the highest ever in school history - which was recently released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
The Skyhawks, who set a school-record with 22 wins, captured the program's first-ever regular season and tournament championship titles en route to a trip to the NCAA East Region Finals.
In addition, sophomore sensation Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn.), who was named Northeast-10 player of the year, was named the East region player to watch for next season and they ranked him the tenth best singles player in the region.
Fayed, who went unbeaten in Northeast-10 action without dropping a set and established a school-record for wins (21) at the No. 1 position, was named Northeast-10 player of the week six times. He is now 24-1 in his career at No. 1 singles.
The doubles combination of Fayed and junior Michael Mashkevich (Framingham, Mass.) ended their season ranked fourth in the region, while Jason Allegretti (Lincoln, R.I.) and William Herchel (Hampden, Mass.) were seventh.
With Allegretti and Herchel being the lone graduates in 2009, Stonehill will return a wealth of talent for the 2010 campaign.
