Martin Named NE-10 Freshman of the Week
Darien,
Conn., native selected in leading Skyhawks to pair
of dual match wins
and second place finish at Stonehill Invitational
EASTON, Mass. (October 6, 2009) - Stonehill College's Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Freshman of the Week for men's tennis it was announced today.
Martin, who earns the award for the first time, helped lead Stonehill to a pair of dual match wins with a combined 4-0 record in singles and doubles play. He won both matches at No. 3 singles against Franklin Pierce University and Colby-Sawyer College. Martin also teamed up with senior Michael Leone (Cataumet, Mass./Bourne) for a pair of victories at No. 2 doubles for the Skyhawks.
Martin has posted a 3-1 singles record so far in his first collegiate season, including a 3-0 mark in dual matches at No. 3. Martin and Leone are 2-0 thus far at No. 2 doubles.
Stonehill (2-1, 1-0 NE-10) will continue its drive for a second-straight Northeast-10 Conference championship in the spring. The Skyhawks have won 15-straight NE-10 regular season dual matches following its win last week at Franklin Pierce in their lone Conference match of the fall season.
