October 23, 2005 - The Stonehill Men's Cross Country team edged out UMass-Lowell to capture their second straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship.  Sophomores Joe Ryan, Khalid Abdi and David Metzger earned first-team all-Conference honors, while head coach Karen Boen was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Easton, Mass. - The Stonehill College Men's Tennis team (18-5, 9-1 Northeast-10 Conference) claimed their spot in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Championship Finals with a 5-0 win over third seeded Merrimack College (10-6, 8-2 Northeast-10 Conference).  For the second consecutive post-season game, the Skyhawks swept doubles competition on their way to a 5-0 victory.  The win marked the 13th time Stonehill has swept doubles events this season.

Sophomore Mike Leone (Cataumet, Mass./Bourne) and Jason Allegretti (Lincoln, R.I./Lincoln) each won their singles contests in straight sets to complete their 2-0 day.  Leone improved his personal record to 10-1 with the fifth singles win, 6-1, 6-0.  Allegretti, a junior, sports a 16-4 record with a victory at third singles, winning today 6-1, 6-1. 

The two each scored wins at second and third doubles.  Leone teamed with senior John McGaffigan (Dedham, Mass./Dedham) to take third doubles 8-4, while Allegretti partnered with William Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug) for the 8-2 win at second doubles.  Teammates Michael Mashkevich (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) and Tim Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) completed the doubles sweep, 8-6, at the team's top spot. 

The Skyhawks await the winner of Saint Michael's College and Bryant University.  The match will take place Sunday at Stonehill College.  The Conference Championship is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
