Skyhawks Score Early And Often, Run Win Streak To Five Games
Foxboro, Mass. - Stonehill dominated the first period and played even over the final two, getting a hat trick from Paul Reissfelder (Plymouth, Mass.) on their way to their fifth straight victory and a 6-3 win over Salve Regina.
The Skyhawks came out on the offensive as Brendan O'Brien (Braintree, Mass.) grabbed the puck off the opening faceoff and took it down the right side of the ice before firing a shot at goaltender Chase Goodrich. Reissfelder picked up the rebound and put it home for the first goal of the game just 10 seconds into the contest.
Salve came back and fired multiple shots on Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.) but came up empty. The Skyhawks came up empty as well, but managed to finally find the net with a minute left as Bill Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) fired home a shot from the far right side of the net.
Angelo Todesca (Westwood, Mass.) then got on the board with just six seconds left on a nice give and go with John Sommers (Manchester, Conn.) for his first career goal as Stonehill ended the period with a 3-0 lead.
Early in the second, the Skyhawks were charged with a game misconduct penalty and the Seahawks took advantage, scoring less than a minute into the penalty on a shot by Joe Colainnni.
Stonehill upped their lead back to three on Reissfelder's second goal of game, this one off another O'Brien wrister. Salve Regina refused to go away though, and halved the lead at the 9:25 mark.
The Seahawks also had a two on zero and one on zero breakaway but were stoned by Manna each time as Stonehill took a two goal lead into third.
In the final period, it was the Skyhawks who made the first big play, as O'Brien dribbled the puck behind the net, before finding a streaking Reissfelder to fired home the one timer for the hat trick and a 5-2 lead.
The rest of the period was marred by penalties as the teams combined for ten penalties during the final 16 minutes. The Seahawks took advantage of a power play at the 6:38 mark and narrowed the lead to two. However, Slave wouldn't get any close as the Skyhawks defense held strong.
Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass.) added an empty net goal with 13 seconds remaining for the 6-3 final score. Manna had 37 saves in net for Stonehill who improve to 5-7 on the season.
In addition to Reissfelder's three goals he added an assist while O'Brien registered a season high four assists, three of which led to Reissfelder goals.
The Skyhawks return to action when they host Western New England on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
