Manchester, N.H. - The host Hawks used a 15-0 run midway through the second half to break open a close game and take a 86-61 win over visiting Stonehill on Tuesday evening at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
With St. Anselm leading 48-44, the Hawks held Stonehill scoreless over the next 4:30 while they made their game-changing run.
The contest never got closer than 17 after that and grew to as many as 29 at 75-46 following a Junior Mitchell jumper.
Stonehill shot 43 percent from the field for the game but struggled from behind the arc, going just 3-for-19. St. Anselm, meanwhile made 48 percent of their shots and had 19 assists attached to their 36 baskets.
A.J. Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J./Monroe) was the only Skyhawk in double figures, finishing with 14 points, while Randall Stallworth (Toms River, N.J./Monsignor Donovan) and Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass./Central) each added nine.
Chris Vetrano, Branimir Zeko, and Thomas Baudinet each paced St. Anselm with 16 points, while John Tello and Lewis Thompson each added 10. Jeff Dickson had six points, three rebounds, 12 assists and no turnovers for the hosts, who improved to 13-13 overall, 11-11 in Northeast-10 action.
Stonehill, now 16-13 overall and 12-10 in Conference play, will host a Northeast-10 tournament first round game on Saturday at 2 p.m. The opponent has yet to be determined.
