Skyhawks, Greyhounds Renew Rivalry

Randall Stallworth is averaging 10 points and 5.5 assists in his last two games.

North Easton, Mass. - After exciting the home crowd for the first time this season with an 85-74 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday, the Skyhawks return to the home hardwood with a Tuesday night meeting with Northeast-10 foe, Assumption.

In the win over the Ravens, Stonehill found the friendly confines of Merkert Gymnasium a comforting place, shooting 55 percent from the field and 51 percent from behind the arc on the way to their second Conference win in three attempts.

Junior Matt Hall (Springfield, Mass.) was the catalyst for the Skyhawks, pacing the purple and white with a game-high 18 points on an efficient 7-for-8 shooting in just 22 minutes. Four other Stonehill players joined Hall in double figures including Nick Smith (Colonia, N.J.) (17), freshman Mike Kernan (Shawnee, N.J.) (14), A.J. Rudowitz (Monroe Township, N.J.) (13) and Randall Stallworth (Perth Amboy, N.J.)  (10).

Stonehill is one of three teams to have two players rank in the top-10 in the Northeast-10 in scoring. St. Michael's Brian Monahan (1st-25.2) and James Sorrentine (2nd-20.3), and Merrimack's Darin Mancy (4th-19.0) and Micky Burtnyk (8th-17.6) join Hall (7th-17.6) Smith (9th-17.5) as teammates in the Conference's top ten in scoring.

The Greyhounds, meanwhile, are coming off their first Northeast-10 Conference loss of the season, a 75-64 setback to the nation's No. 1 team, Bentley. Senior Mike Foti led the Greyhounds with 18 points in the loss, while junior Mitch Bajema (10) was the only other Assumption player in double figures.

Senior Corey Diethorn leads the Greyhounds in scoring through their first seven contests, averaging 14.0 points and 9.3 rebounds. Three other players are averaging double figures as well, including senior Greg Twomey (11.6), sophomore Courtland Blueford (10.3) and Foti (10.0). Junior Pat Shea is collecting a workman-like 8.6 points and 7.0 boards a night.

Following their matchup with Assumption, the Skyhawks hit the road for two contests beginning with a meeting at St. Rose on Thursday and a Saturday afternoon game at Bentley.
