Florentino Named ECAC Northeast All-Star

Senior defensemen James Florentino (West Roxbury, Mass.) was named an ECAC Northeast All-Star as announced by the New England Writers Association. Florentino was the only player from the Northeast-10 to be named an ECAC All-Star and is the first NE-10 player to receive the honor since the 2004-05 season when Southern New Hampshire’s Pat Doherty was honored. This season Florentino was third on the team in scoring with nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points in 22 games. His 23 points were tops in the NE-10 among defensemen and third in the ECAC Northeast. He finished his career as the school’s career leader in goals by a defensemen with 25 and is second in assists with 46.

Six Skyhawks Named To ECAC Northeast All-Academic Team

Six players from the Stonehill men’s ice hockey team were named to the ECAC Northeast All-Acacdemic Team as announced the ECAC earlier this week. Sophomore Mike Manna (Framingham, Mass.), Junior Brendan Connors (Lowell, Mass.) and seniors Frank Amato (West Springfield, Mass.), James Killeen (Derry, N.H.), Bill Ninteau (Litchfield, N.H.) and John Sommers (Manchester, Conn.) were all named to the ECAC All-Academic Team in a season which saw the Skyhawks reach the Northest-10 Championship game and finish the season 10-13 after dropping their first seven games of the season.

Two Winter Squads Claim Sportsmanship Awards

Two Stonehill teams have been named recipients of the third annual Winter Sportsmanship Awards it has been announced by the Northeast-10 Conference. The awards program, which honors one team from each of the conference’s 23 championship sports that has exemplified the spirit of sportsmanship and generally conducted themselves with a higher degree of integrity, character and class. Women’s Indoor Track and the Ice Hockey team have both been selected, making Stonehill one of three school’s to have two teams recognized. Bentley (Men’s Indoor Track, Women’s Swimming) and Saint Michael’s (Men’s Basketball, Men’s Swimming) were the other two.
