Streaks Collide In Key Conference Matchup

Easton, Mass. - Two of the top three teams in the Northeast-10 square off on Tuesday night, both bringing extended winning streaks into the matchup.

UMass-Lowell (9-2), ranked fourth in the country in the latest NFHCA National Poll, enters the contest winners of nine straight and sit atop the Northeast-10 standings at 9-0.

Stonehill, meanwhile, has won its last six after dropping their first four, including a 4-2 decision to the River Hawks back on September 2.

UMass-Lowell has been scoring goals in bunches as of late and have outscored their opponents 45-7 in the last nine games. Defensively, they have been exceptional as well, with the two-headed monster of Amy Carbon and Danielle Dodier having posted six shutouts this season.

Offense shouldn't be a problem for either team, however, as they rank first and third in the Conference in scoring. UML's top ranked offensive attack is led by the Northeast-10's top two scorers in Sammy Macy (30 points - 13 goals, four assists) and Jaci Moulton (24 points - 10 goals, four assists).

At 6-3, the Skyhawks are tied with three other teams (St. Michael's, Bentley and Southern Connecticut) for second in the NE-10. Against those three teams, Stonehill is 1-2, but will get another shot an each of them, including two of the meetings coming at home.

Junior Claire Hourihan (East Amherst, N.Y.) does most of the damage for the Skyhawks, having totaled nine goals and four assists in 10 games thus far this season. Her 22 points this season are already more than she scored in all 21 games (20 points) last season.

Classmate Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.) is the NE-10's eighth leading scorer and is second in the Conference in assists. Her six helpers so far this season, coupled with the 20 she had in her first two years moved her into second place on the school's all-time list.

During their streak, Stonehill has gotten contributions from several underclassmen, including sophomore Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine) and freshman Kathryn Nelson (Shrewsbury, Mass.). Pinkham, who had one goal and six points as a freshman, has three goals and seven points in 2008. Nelson, last week's Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week, has two goals and is sixth on the team in scoring.

Following the matchup with UML, the Skyhawks will play four of its next five matches at home before wrapping up regular season play on the road for its final three contests.
