Not This Time - Skyhawks Can't Rally Against River Hawks
Lowell, Mass. - Sammy Macy scored two goals and added an assist as No. 4 UMass Lowell defeated No. 8 Stonehill, 3-2, in the Northeast-10 Tournament semifinals at Cushing Field Saturday afternoon.
The River Hawks, the NE-10 regular season champions, improve to 18-3 with the win and advance to the tournament's championship match Sunday afternoon (1:00 p.m.). The Skyhawks fall to 13-8.
Macy contributed on all three goals, scoring the first two of the game to give the River Hawks a 2-0 lead at the half.
Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H.) got the Skyhawks on the board with help from Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.) in the 43rd minute with her seventh tally of the season.
Lindsey Pinkham (Skowhegan, Maine) tied the game in the 59th minute off a feed from Ashley March (Schwenksville, Pa.).
Less than three minutes after Pinkham tied the game, junior forward Jaci Moulton scored the game-winning goal for the River Hawks in the 61st minute.
Amy Carbon made five saves to pick up her 13th win of the season for UML while Courtney Osier (South Dennis, Mass.) took the loss for Stonehill, allowing three goals and making eight saves.
The River Hawks out-shot the Skyhawks 17 to 10 for the game, including 11 to 8 in the second half. UML held an 11 to 9 edge in penalty corners.
The River Hawks, the No. 1 seed in the 2008 Northeast-10 tournament, host the winner of the Bentley-Southern Connecticut game. The championship match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Cushing Field.
