No. 3 Skyhawks Fall To No. 7 Falcons, 2-1 In OT
Waltham, Mass. - Bentley scored two unanswered goals, including the gamewinner midway through the first overtime to push the Falcons to a 2-1 win over visiting Stonehill on Thursday evening in Northeast-10 field hockey.
With the loss, the Skyhawks fall to 11-2 overall and 9-2 in Conference play. Stonehill is now in a tie for third with Bryant behind UMass-Lowell and Bentley.
Caitlin Gleason (New Boston, N.H.) scored the game's first goal 2:45 into the game off a feed from Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.), ending Bentley netminder Alyssa Sliney scoreless streak at 235 minutes, giving the Skyhawks the early lead.
The Falcons scored what they thought was the game tying goal later in the first half but the score was disallowed by the official. Bentley finally got on the board with 8:45 to go in the first half when Krissy Lanzillo beat Stonehill goalkeeper Dani Ryder (Gloucester, Mass.) to even the score.
Stonehill looked to be in position to take the lead late in the first half but Laura Nimon's (Gardiner, Maine) shot hit the left side post of the cage and rolled away
The ball seemed to stay on the Stonehill offensive end of the field most of the game as evident by the edge they held in penalty corners (10-6) and shots (12-6).
The game remained tied until Nicole Murphy pounced on her own rebound after being initially stopped by Ryder to give the Falcons their second straight win over the Skyhawks dating back to last season.
Stonehill now heads to New York for two games beginning with Catawba on Sunday followed by C.W. Post on Monday.
