Senior Trio Named Captains

Easton, Mass. - Seniors Jeff Cuqua (Walpole, Mass.), Bob Holland (North Andover, Mass.) and Jon Kaloyanides (Cranston, R.I.) have been named team captains for the 2008 edition of Stonehill football head coach Robert Talley has announced.

Cuqua has appeared in 27 of 30 games in his career registering 133 career tackles, three fumble recoveries. In his junior campaign, he finished third on the team with 53 stops, including 34 solos. One of his best games came in the win over C.W. Post when he made 11 stops (nine solo).

Holland was a key cog in the rebirth of the Stonehill running game a season ago, paving the way for nearly 1,300 yards on the ground for primary ballcarriers Jeff Payne (West Haven, Conn.) and Eddie Vachon (Newton, Mass.). An excellent receiver out of the backfield, Holland hauled in 16 passes for 135 yards, good for fourth on the team.

Kaloyanides spent three seasons at quarterback before transferring to tight end in the offseason. While at the controls of the Stonehill offense he passed for 1,195 yards and eight touchdowns. A business major with a finance minor, Kaloyanides received the prestigious William G. McGowan Scholarship, awarded annually to a Stonehill student who wishes to pursue a career in business administration.

Year two of the Talley Era of Stonehill Football kicks off next Friday with a home contest against Wagner at 7 p.m.
