Neville Named Freshman of the Week
Easton, Mass. - Defensive back/kick returner Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.) has been named Northeast-10 Freshman of the Week and three other Skyhawks were named to the weekly honor roll it was announced by the Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Neville provided instant excitement in Stonehill's eventual 28-24 loss at Pace on Saturday, returning the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. He also added two solo tackles. The return marked the second time in the last four contests that the Skyhawks have scored on a kickoff. Jeff Payne (West Haven, Conn.) returned a kickoff 74 yards for a score in a 24-14 win over Merrimack towards the end of last season.
Senior wideout Chris Palmer (Santa Barbara, Calif.) was named to the honor roll after hauling in five catches for 63 yards and two scores in the loss at Pace. First he snared a 15-yard scoring strike to open the second quarter and then grabbed what looked to be the game-winning 29-yard score with 38 seconds left on 4th and 18.
Joining Palmer on the honor roll were defensive stars Anthony Tomasz (Hopkinton, Mass.) and George Whetstone (Westwood, Mass.). Tomasz collected his first career interception and returned it 49 yards and registered eight tackles. Whetstone, meanwhile, had a monster contest, recording eight tackles (three and a half for loss), a pair of sacks and a pass breakup.
The Skyhawks return to action on Friday evening when they host Southern Connecticut at W.B. Mason Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
