Sanzari Named Defensive Player of the Week
Easton, Mass. - Senior linebacker Greg Sanzari (Centerport, N.Y.) has been named Northeast-10 Defensive Player of the Week it was announced by the Conference office on Monday.
Sanzari played a huge role in the Skyhawks' upset win over Division I-AA Wagner, 14-13 on Friday evening. He posted 10 tackles, a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss helping Stonehill hold the Seahawks to just 224 yards of total offense.
His sack, the first of his career, came at a crucial juncture, as Wagner had driven inside Stonehill territory and faced a third and eight which became a fourth and 16 after he dropped Seahawk quarterback Adam Farnsworth for an eight yard loss.
Sanzari, who recorded 46 tackles as a junior while appearing in all 10 contests, has now registered double digit tackles in three of his last four contests, including a career-high 14 at Southern Connecticut last season.
Joining Sanzari on the Northeast-10 Weekly Honor Roll were senior running back Jeff Payne (West Haven, Conn.) and freshman defensive back Stephan Neville (Foxborough, Mass.).
Payne rushed for 144 yards on 29 carries, while Neville made two solo tackles and had the game sealing interception.
The Skyhawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Pace for their Northeast-10 season opener beginning at 12 p.m.
