Back On Track
Looking to snap a two-game losing streak, Stonehill
travels to Bentley on Friday night for a 7 p.m. meeting with the
Falcons.
What Lies Ahead
Starting with their matchup with Bentley, the Skyhawks play three
straight contests away from W.B. Mason Stadium.
What's Left
Stonehill went 3-4 in 2007 against the six teams remaining on its
2008 schedule.
Falcons Fly High
After starting the varsity series with a tie and a win, Stonehill
has gone 2-17 in the last 19 meetings, including having dropped the
last 13 matchups.
It Has Happened Before ...
Because of the departures of C.W. Post and Bryant from the
Northeast-10, Stonehill and Bentley will play twice this season for
the first time since 1995.
... And When It Did
During the 1995 season, Stonehill won a thrilling 39-36
regular season affair, only to have the Falcons roll to a 46-3 win
in the ECAC IFC Bowl a week later.
4th And Inches
In 20 seasons of varsity play, Stonehill is 8-11-1 in the fourth
game of the season.
4th And Short
The only time Stonehill and Bentley squared off in the fourth game
of the season was back in 1988, when the two teams tied 21-21.
4th And Goal
In the fourth game of the season in 1994, Stonehill set a program
record for points with a 57-20 win over MIT.
4th And Long
For the past four years, Stonehill has dropped its fourth game of
the season by an average of 10.5 points.
Bulbs On The Scoreboard
During the 13-game stretch, Bentley has outscored Stonehill
500-210, including a 57-17 win in 2003, the most points either team
has ever scored in the series.
Greene Means Go
Senior linebacker Michael Greene (Plainview, N.Y.)
returned a fumble 91 yards for his first career touchdown in the
28-14 loss to Southern Connecticut. The play was the longest ever
in W.B. Mason Stadium history.
Welcome Back
Senior defensive back Jon Kilborn (North
Dartmouth, Mass.) made his impact felt when he returned to the
lineup in the loss to Southern Connecticut. He finished with a
team-high nine tackles and blocked a punt late in the fourth
quarter that went one yard.
Parsons' Plan
Cruz Parsons (Signal Hill, Calif.) has 26 career
touchdown passes and only 12 interceptions. He is currently on a
streak of 57 straight passes without a miscue. This streak pales in
comparison to the 120 pass stretch he had during the 2007
season.
Payne-Fully Obvious
Now with 1,011 career rushing yards, senior Jeff
Payne (West Haven, Conn.) has moved into the top ten on
the school's career rushing list. Former standout Tyrone Jefferson
(1998-2000) is the program's all-time leader with 2,701
yards.
Nine Lives
After rushing for seven touchdowns a season ago, Jeff
Payne registered his first score in the loss to Southern
Connecticut. He now has nine career touchdowns.
3rd Quarter Slumber
In 13 contests with head coach Robert Talley at the helm, Stonehill
has failed to score in the third quarter nine times.
If Tony's Great, What About George?
Senior George Whetstone (Westwood, Mass.) has
three sacks this season in just three contests. Last year's team
leader Tony Camarota had 3.5 sacks in 10 contests.
Return To Sender
Freshman Stephan Neville (Foxborough,
Mass.) ranks third in the nation in kickoff returns with a 38.5
average. That average was buoyed by an 85-yard touchdown return to
open the game at Pace.
Not The Only One
Freshman Stephan Neville isn't the only Skyhawk
enjoying success on kickoff returns. Sophomore Eddie
Vachon (Newton, Mass.) ranks sixth in the Northeast-10
with a 21.8 yard return average. In the loss to Southern
Connecticut, he had three returns for 101 yards, including a
career-best 44 yarder.
Double Trouble
With Jeff Payne and Eddie Vachon
doing most of the damage, Stonehill ranks third in the Northeast-10
in rushing offense (143.7).
Pringle's Back
Playing in the first game of his junior season, David
Pringle (West Haven, Conn.) caught a career-high tying
five passes for 39 yards in the loss to Southern Connecticut.
Double Dippin'
Eddie Vachon and Jeff Payne rank
sixth and seventh in the Northeast-10 in all-purpose yards per
game. Vachon is racking up 111.7, while Payne totals 109.7.
Rooney's Boots
Freshman Chris Rooney (Quincy, Mass.) made his
career appearance in the loss to Southern Connecticut. He punted
four times for 163 yards (40.8 average) and had one stop inside the
20.
Holland Helps Out
Senior Bob Holland (North Andover, Mass.) had two
catches in the loss to Southern Connecticut. One of them was a
19-yard reception on 4th and 3 on the game's opening drive and set
up Jeff Payne's touchdown.
Share The Wealth
Eight different receivers have been on the receiving end of the 28
pass completions by Cruz Parsons this season.
Run Eddie, Run
The longest run in Eddie Vachon's career run (35
yards) came in last year's loss to Bentley. In that contest, Vachon
had 73 yards on 10 carries, as he and Jeff Payne
combined for 124 yards on 23 carries.
Clark Heads Home
Junior linebacker Clark Leger, a native of
Waltham, starred at Trinity Catholic in Newton before arriving at
Stonehill in 2006. He has started all three games thus far this
season and is fifth on the squad with 16 tackles. He also has a
sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
