STOUGHTON, Mass.-- The Stonehill equestrian team placed fifth of 12 teams competing on Sunday afternoon at the Stonehill Intercollegiate Horse Show at Dry Water Farm, as Endicott took high point champion honors while UMass Dartmouth followed as reserve champion.
Sophomore Jamie Marsalise (Laurel Hollow, N.Y.) was the overall high point rider in the competition, as she was first in both the open fences and open flat and qualified for the IHSA Regionals in the open fences. Senior Sara Zelazny (San Diego, Calif.) was first in the walk trot canter and also qualified for IHSA Regional competition for the Skyhawks, who also received first place performances from senior Heather Marban (Ridgefield, Conn.) in the open flat, sophomore Jenna Boyd (Middleton, Mass.) in the walk trot and freshmen Megan Martinez (New York, N.Y.) and Quinn Traendly (Hope Valley, R.I.) in the novice flat and open flat, respectively.
Freshman Kelli-Ann Monroe (Swanzey, N.H.) was second in both the novice flat and novice fences for Stonehill, which also received a second place performance from freshman Devon Poeta (Old Lyme, Conn.) in the open flat. Senior Mary Shawn DeGaetano (South Huntington, N.Y.) was second in the open flat as well for the Skyhawks and qualified for IHSA Regional competition.
Stonehill, which is in second place in the IHSA Zone 1, Region 4 standings in a close race with first place Wheaton and third place UMass Dartmouth, closes out its regular season slate next Saturday by heading to Danvers, Mass. for the Bridgewater State Intercollegiate Horse Show that begins at 9:00 a.m.
