Giusti Doubles Up On NE-10 Honors
Easton, Mass. - Senior Matt Giusti (Hopkinton, Mass.) was named both the Northeast-10 Player of the Week and Pitcher of the week after going 2-0 in two starts it was announced by the conference this morning.
Giusti had the game of a lifetime in just his second start of the season, throwing the first perfect game in school history, a 9-0 win over Assumption last Thursday. It took the 6-1 righty just 65 pitches to finish off all 21 batters he faced, striking out six and inducing eight flyouts and six ground outs. It was the first perfect game in Division II in nearly five years and only the 16th time it has happened overall.
In his first start of the season, the Hopkinton native led the Skyhawks to their first victory of the season, a 2-0 win over C.W. Post. Giusti pitched a complete game five hit shutout against the Pioneers, striking out six and walking just three over seven innings of work.
Stonehill returns to action on Saturday when they travel to take on Assumption for a double header, with games at 12:00 and 3:00 and then host the Greyhounds on Sunday at Lou Gorman Field.
