Stonehill Announces Organizational Changes In Athletics

Stonehill College President Mark T. Cregan, C.S.C. has announced organizational and leadership changes in the College’s department of athletics that became effective on July 1, 2008. Paula Sullivan, who has served as Director of Athletics for the past 12 years, has been promoted to Assistant Vice President for Athletics. In that role she will oversee both the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Department of Recreational Sports. Replacing Sullivan as Director of Intercollegiate Athletics will be Brendan Sullivan (no relation), who has served as Associate Director of Athletics since 2003.

Shelly Morris Named Head Field Hockey Coach

Shelly Morris, a former standout at Northeastern University, has been named head coach of the Stonehill field hockey program, Director of Athletics Paula Sullivan announced on Wednesday. Morris brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served as the head coach of Ohio University for five seasons, where she led the Bobcats to the Mid-American Conference title and the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2001. Morris inherits a team that finished the 2007 season at 15-6 overall and returns several key players including All-America Kerri Sullivan (Goffstown, N.H.) and Northeast-10 All-Star Jackie Ladino (North Dartmouth, Mass.).

Kaloyanides Named McGowan Scholar

Quarterback Jon Kaloyanides was named Stonehill’s 2008-2009 McGowan Scholar and was awarded a tuition scholarship from the William G. McGowan Charitable Fund it has been announced. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the Fund was established to realize – and to enlarge – the potentials that McGowan foresaw in the future of the young. The McGowan Scholars program provides selected colleges and universities with scholarships to help students who wish to pursue a business education. The William G. McGowan Charitable Fund was named after the man who founded MCI Communications Corporation in 1968.
