After guiding his squad to the best season in school history last spring, Peter Miller returns for his 27th campaign as Head Men's Tennis Coach at Stonehill College. The dean of Northeast-10 Conference mentors, Miller has led the Skyhawks to new heights of success in the past three years, as Stonehill has earned a pair of berths in the NCAA Division II championship field while reaching double digits in the win column on a pair of occasions.
The 2006 season was historic in many ways for Miller's crew, as Stonehill shattered the school single-season victories mark with a 15-6 overall record, including a 10-1 slate in Northeast-10 play that was good for the runner-up spot in the regular season league race. The Skyhawks hosted the 2006 NCAA Division II East Regional in earning their second championship berth in three years, and eight individuals earned all-conference honors in both singles and doubles play for their efforts. The tradition of team sportsmanship also continued last spring for Stonehill, as a Skyhawk earned the nod as the F. Paul Bogan Sportsmanship Award recipient for the sixth time in the last seven years.
Success has been a trademark of Miller's program throughout his long tenure, as he has posted 185 dual-match victories to rank as the winningest coach in the 54-year history of Stonehill men's tennis. The 2004 season saw the Skyhawks earn their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance after posting their first double-digit victory total in over a quarter century, and Miller was recognized as the Northeast-10 Coach of the Year for the first time in his career following that campaign.
A three-year letter winner at Stonehill during his playing days, Miller helped guide the Skyhawks to a 26-19 record from 1972-75, including an 8-2 mark during his senior season. Peter returned to his alma mater in 1979 to take over the fledgling women's tennis program at the College, as he collected 13 dual-match victories on the women's side in four seasons before concentrating solely on the men's team after the 1982 season.
Through the 1980's, Miller guided Stonehill to an impressive 67 dual-match victories, including 10 triumphs in the 1988 season. After a year's sabbatical in 1991, Miller returned to helm in 1992 and has since led the Skyhawks to 111 dual match victories. Peter currently resides in Smithfield, R.I.
