May 5, 1990 - Sharon Birnie, a junior on the Stonehill College Equestrian team, became the first Stonehill student to ride in the intercollegiate national competition.  Birnie, who competed in Novice Jumping, placed second at both the regionals and zone competition to earn her spot at nationals.    


John Maloy

A men's tennis standout, John Maloy was the number one singles player for Stonehill for three seasons. Maloy participated in the NCAA Championships during both his junior and senior campaigns in 1966 and 1967, compiling an overall personal mark of 31-11 (.738) during his career. John helped guide the late Head Coach Brother Albertus Smith's squad to a then-school record 10 dual-match victories during his senior season of 1967.  Maloy later went on to become a head coach himself at Cape Cod Community College.
