Skyhawks Finish 18th At NCAA’s
Joplin, Mo. – Senior David
Metzger’s (Ellington, Conn.) 56th place finish was
Stonehill’s top showing at the NCAA Division II Cross Country
National Championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of
Missouri Southern State University
The Skyhawks, who entered the meet ranked 10th in the country, had
434 points and came in just behind Pittsburg (Kan.) State, who
finished in 17th place with 433 points.
Abeline Christian claimed the men’s team title and their star
runner, Nicodemus Naimadu became the first runner, male or female
in any division to win four-straight NCAA Cross Country Titles.
Stonehill’s Northeast-10 rival, UMass-Lowell, finished in
13th with 331 points.
Freshman Kevin Gill (Brockton, Mass.) was second
in team scoring for the Skyhawks in 63rd place with a time of
32:33.2 and was followed by Matt Meager in 101st place
(33:20.3).
Senior captain Joe Ryan (Chelmsford, Mass.)
concluded his collegiate career with a time of 33:22.8, good for
103rd position.
Running in his first race of the season, Keith
Gill (Brockton, Mass.) crossed the finish line in 111th
place and rounded out the team scoring for Stonehill.
Dickie Gerry (Bow, N.H.) and Josh Andrews
(Chelmsford, Mass.) didn’t figure into the team scoring, but
finished in 150th and 161st spots, respectively.
